Tuesday I could be found reading the wonderful website MuggleNet, as I so often do. Apparently, “Oscar producers asked JK Rowling and Stephenie Meyer to present together at this year’s ceremony.” (Article Link Here!)
Forget for a moment that it would be an insult to Jo Rowling to even be asked to co-present with Stephenie Meyer. Stephenie Meyer should not even be asked to preside at awards. Obviously, the Oscar producers were desperate for some media attention from the younger generation. Both declined – Meyer because she’s Mormon and doesn’t work on Sundays — Rowling because she has scheduling conflicts. Now, I know Meyer is definitely Mormon and Rowling probably insanely busy, but I also think there’s the small factor that the two of them really don’t want to meet.
Think of it. J.K. Rowling is a top of the line author who writes for all ages, genders, every demographic, whereas Stephenie Meyer…well, she admits she writes for 12-year-old girls. Rowling writes with excruciating detail and original characters that are deep on so many multiple levels – they’re almost realistic. She created a world so phenomenal, there are over 150 characters equaling in level depth. And then you have Meyer, with Mary-Sue protagonist Bella Swan, a sparkling boyfriend, and cliché, guessable plots – this writer seems to write only for her fans. (The 12-year-old girls).
J.K. Rowling is no fool. She knows it would be bad if she decapitated Stephenie Meyer (how much everyone may want her to do so). She also knows that meeting Meyer would result in a showdown so epic, it would be like no other Author Battle before.
Meyer: “….Edward, sparklingfancysuperhot vampire…”
Rowling: “Real vampires don’t shine.”
Meyer: “Mine do – they’re perfect” -swoons-
Rowling (in her fancy British accent): “Oh, please. My Cedric Diggory teenage wizard could beat your hundred year old Edward in a heartbeat – and he got killed in book 4!”
Meyer: “You kill your characters! I don’t have the gall to do that to them.”
Rowling: “So you settle for a book that anticipates a huge battle and results in a little handshake in the end. Really realistic.”
…and on and on. It is quite obvious that Jo Rowling would win the Battle of the Writers – she thinks things out a hundred times better than Meyer does. Quite frankly, it’s insulting that Stephenie Meyer should be considered next to Jo Rowling.
So tell me: What’s your opinion of a Jo Rowling – Stephenie Meyer showdown? Who would win? What’s your opinion of the two meeting?

what comes before winter
She’s Mormon? ahahahahaha. I did not know that. *laughs again*
I’m sure JKR would win. Of course, the work of neither author appeals to me, but I can recognise that JKR is a good writer for her genre.
This again makes me wonder if I should attempt to at least pick up a Twilight book and read it a bit so that I can be duly educated as to why I already know that sucks. Then again. It’s hard to think of a time when I wouldn’t have a hundred better things to do.
What’s really sad is that Twlight doesn’t *just* appeal to 12-year-old girls. There are way too many older females who like it – high school sophomores, and even someone in my community college English class, along with “everyone I know”. [That's what she said. o_O]
I have yet to find a male who likes it, however. Tell me if you ever find or hear of one.

J.K. Rowling is my hero and she would win hands down. There isn’t even a question of who would win.
I imagine that the two of them meeting would be one of intense awkwardness. J.K. Rowling would be sitting in a chair holding her beloved book and squinting at Meyer. Meyer would act confused before confronting Rowling. “Why are you squinting?” Meyer would ask. “Because, they say that you are the next J.K. Rowling. Personally I don’t see the resemblance.”

hahahahaha! who wrote this? i love you! this is exactly what i’ve been saying to all my freinds! for me, harry potter is the best thing i’ve ever loved. rowling is my idol, i worship her. i cant believe some people are so stupid to compare them with each other – hell, yeah, they’re not even of equal quality, but their GENRE’S different too! and u can read harry potter fifty times and love it even more, but then the fifth time u go through breaking dawn, you’re DEAD with the monotony and the repititive plots and TOTALLY cliche’d endings.
i want to meet rowling and kiss her feet and tell her how much she means to me, and how much she changed my life, the way i write, everything.
HOW?

If you go to the Deathly Hallows p2 world premiere in London, at least you’d get to see her.
As for really getting to meet her, you could wait outside the Cineworld cinema in Fountain Park in Edinburgh for a couple of weeks to see if she showed up, haha.

Hi
I am a huge potter fan and a twilight fan. In my opinion Rowling is one of the greatest authors of all time, and Meyer just another tween/teenage writer, whose works I still love. But this fact does not give you the right to bash her. How many books have you got published? What you are doing is comparing two different restaurants, a burger joint and a smoothie bar. Both are restaurants but they sell different things. Rowling sells Harrys epic adventures and Meyer shares a love story. Why exactly does stephenie meter have to write for people of all ages? Why do you get to judge her for not? In case you forgot, it’s her book, her story, she didn’t write it to rival Harry potter and she didn’t write it for you. “this writer seems to write only for her fans” how could you even tell that? You don’t know what she writes for.
As to your ideas that there is definite tension between Rowling and Meyer… Have you sat down and spoken to them? Well I don’t know if you have, but I’m going to guess that you havnt and say that you want Rowling to have these ideas about Meyer, that she wants to “decapitate” her, so you made yourself believe that Rowling really does believe she’s so much better. And to this epic showdown that would occur upon their meeting, what? You are aware that they are not the only magical writing authors around, and how do you know what she ‘knows’?
And your make believe conversation. You give Meyer, who despite what you choose to believe did create her own world and Plotline and made five great books from it, absolutely no credit.
You dont know how either of them thinks. We all know that Rowling is an amazing writer, but how do we know what’s going on inside her head? And how do you know what’s going on inside Meyers head? For all we know she’s a thousand times smarter tha.n JK rowling. Again, two differed restaurants, anyone who’s comparing is stupid. Why can’t two women be successful without being attacked?
I dont know why you chose to make an ass out of JK Rowling but this was never how I imagined her. Believing shes superior to other authors? Not attending a awards night simply to not meet a certain author? No. You and so many other people are creating a world of argument here that doesn’t exist. I pray that JK Rowling isn’t the way you have depicted her here.
Next time, before you are so quick to judge, consider that you might be wrong and mIght not know as much as you think you do. Then instead if placing thoughts into two respectable womens heads, consider both sides realistically.

Jo Rowling is in a totally different class, both cannot be compared. But at the same time, Meyer (not that i like her in anyway) has her moments however small they are. When comparing on the ability to convey thoughts and ideas-Rowling is exemplary. The detail, character creating, conflict, plot is simply enthralling. The way the last book is a culmination of the last six…..is…i mean who could have done that? Meyer on the other hand has no clue whatsoever what a good plot is. Cliche.
Proves that writing is something your destined to do.
On a scale of one to ten…..nah….not worth comparing.

i simply enjoyed reading dis article….dis is exactly wat i tell other twilight fans out der….it is an insult for JK rowling to be compared with a third class author like SM …JKR created a different world….n come on!! it is not an easy task to create a different world…a world with its own culture, own school of thoughts, own dressing style…and how can we forget…a world with its very own sport – “Quidditch”……it is not an easy task to invent a sport !!!…and when u read harry potter u r out of dis world,,,u r inside d book…u get emotionally attached to the charatcer n u literally cry when a gud person in the series die….simply amazing!!
